EoFTTC and EoFTTP are Ethernet access options that use different last-mile technologies. The right choice depends on what is available at the premises, the bandwidth profile, service terms and the operational importance of the connection.

What EoFTTC means

Ethernet over FTTC uses a fibre-to-the-cabinet access path with a copper final section. The copper length and quality can influence attainable performance. It can provide a managed Ethernet option where full fibre is unavailable, but it should not be described as a dedicated fibre circuit to the premises.

What EoFTTP means

Ethernet over FTTP uses a full-fibre access path where the product is available. It removes the cabinet-to-premises copper section and may offer a different range of bandwidth profiles. Availability and product terms remain address-specific.

Managed service versus access bearer

The access circuit is only one layer. I.T Communications manages the Layer 3 service while selected carriers provide relevant Layer 2 access. Compare routing, monitoring, addressing, support and handoff as well as the underlying bearer when reviewing EoFTTC and EoFTTP services.

Availability and survey

A postcode check is useful but is not the whole qualification. Confirm the exact address, unit, existing infrastructure, wayleave constraints and termination location. New fibre work can depend on landlord and carrier processes outside the provider’s direct control.

Bandwidth and application needs

Estimate peak concurrent traffic, upload demand and latency-sensitive applications. Ask whether the quoted profile is symmetrical and what handoff speed is provided. Do not buy a larger circuit than the local firewall or switching can process.

Resilience

An Ethernet-labelled service is not immune to failure. If the site is critical, check whether primary and backup circuits share ducts, exchanges, carrier infrastructure or local power. A separate business broadband connection may be useful backup only after the route and capacity have been assessed.
