How to Start Offering Telecom Services as an MSP or Reseller
A practical route for MSPs and resellers adding telecom services without losing control of support, billing and customer experience.

Adding telecom services can help an MSP solve more of a customer’s operational needs, but it also introduces number management, emergency calling, billing, service assurance and regulatory responsibilities. Start with a controlled service scope rather than a long product list.
Choose a target customer
Define the size, location and technology profile you already support. A focused offer for existing managed customers is easier to operate than every voice, mobile and connectivity product from day one.
Select the operating model
Decide which services are referred, resold or delivered under your brand. Establish who contracts with the customer, invoices usage, handles faults and meets applicable obligations. The I.T Communications wholesale programme can support a documented model without pretending every responsibility transfers automatically.
Build the commercial process
Document quoting, credit, order validation, minimum terms, usage charges, hardware and cancellation. Reconcile supplier billing before customer invoices are issued. Avoid promises that are not present in the underlying service terms.
Own support boundaries
Create one intake route and collect service IDs, symptoms and timestamps. Train staff to distinguish endpoint, LAN, access, carrier and platform faults. Define escalation and customer updates.
Use a suitable portal
Orders, numbers, usage, invoices and tickets need auditable access. Bespoke telecom websites and portals can reflect the reseller workflow rather than forcing staff to copy data between systems.
Launch in stages
- Pilot with a small number of suitable customers.
- Measure order accuracy and time to resolve faults.
- Reconcile billing and commissions.
- Review compliance and customer communications.
- Add products only when operations are stable.

Define customer ownership
Record who owns telephone numbers, domains, licences and administrator accounts from the start. A reseller should be able to support the customer without trapping those assets in an employee’s or supplier’s undocumented account.
Prepare a handover pack for each activated service containing references, contacts, renewal terms and support boundaries. This improves everyday fault handling and gives the customer a controlled exit route if the commercial relationship changes.
